What is Co-payment?

Many group health insurance policies include co-payments as a basic feature. In essence, it refers to the portion of the claim cost that the insured is responsible for paying out of pocket. It is determined on a percentage-sharing basis because both the insured and the insurer are responsible for the cost. The policy will normally state this clause and the percentage.
